I am a PhD student under Dr. Gail Davoren. My PhD will focus on seabird-forage fish systems. Capelin (Mallotus villosus) is a key forage fish species in the Northwest Atlantic that functions as the link between higher and lower trophic levels. The goal of this research is to identify potential locations of deep-water spawning sites in coastal Newfoundland to further aid in locating critical foraging habitats of predators. To do this, I plan to use oceanographic features and other physical features associated with deep-water capelin spawning sites to spatially model locations of deepwater capelin spawning sites in coastal Newfoundland.
