The Hutton's Shearwater Charitable Trust, New Zealand

I am an ornithologist with a wide field, technical, research, legislative, permitting and captive breeding background. I have worked within New Zealand and overseas. My work has related to terrestrial, wetland and seabird species. One of my most notable times were in the North Western Hawaiian Islands (working on Tern Island and Midway Atoll) in the Pacific Ocean, and working on Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean. I have worked closely with many seabird species - albatrosses, shearwaters, petrels, storm petrels, boobies, terns, tropicbirds, frigatebirds, noddies and penguins.

I currently work as a Project Coordinator for The Hutton's Shearwater Charitable Trust, and The Isaac Conservation and Wildlife Trust.

The Hutton's Shearwater Charitable Trust encourages and promotes the preservation, conservation, research, education, and sustainable management of the endangered Hutton's shearwater. The role of the Trust is to gain greater understanding of the ecology of the Hutton's shearwater and to ensure the survival of the two remaining mountain colonies and translocated Kaikoura Peninsula colony.

The Isaac Conservation and Wildlife Trust is a privately funded charitable Trust founded in 2009. The Trust carries on the work established by Lady Diana Isaac under The Isaac Wildlife Trust since 1977. Specialised captive breeding is carried out to secure and increase population numbers of endangered species. Captive breeding with the aim of reintroduction into the wild is a last resort strategy that can be fundamental in stabilising or reversing declines. The Trust works in conjunction with the Department of Conservation, recovery groups, the Zoo and Aquarium Association and many other captive institutions. The Trust currently breeds New Zealand shore plover, orange-fronted parakeet, black stilt, blue duck, brown teal, tuatara, grand skink, Otago skink and Canterbury mudfish. In the past the Trust has held North Island brown kiwi, South Island kaka, Campbell Island teal, yellow-crowned parakeet, red-crowned parakeet, takahe, kea, yellowhead and NZ wood pigeon.
